"It is better to take many small steps in the right direction than to make a great leap forward only to stumble backward"
My dream when I was in High School was to play Division 1 College Basketball. I played on an Elite Nike AAU Team, Averaged 21 ppg in HS, Led my Team to a School best 21-3 in NY's Highest Classification, and had dominated other D1 Scholarship Players in head to head competitions. However, I was 5'11" and 140 lbs in HS and no D1 was going to offer me lol. Instead of heading to Prep School, I accepted a Scholarship to Division 2 The College of Saint Rose in the Northeast-10 Conference (One of the best D2 Conferences in the Country). I had sent my highlight tape and Film to every school in the NE-10 and the only schools to call me back were Saint Rose and Lemoyne.
After graduating HS, I was a D2 player. Because after all, that is where I landed. I made a promise to myself, that I had 4 years to Develop, get better, and prove that I was a D1 caliber player. I said, no long term goals. Short Term.... Get better everyday, every month, every season, and see where I ended up.
In the same league where no one would return my call, I became a 2x Player of the Year, 2x 1st Team All-American, and 2x 1st Team Academic All-American.
The reason for telling this story is not to brag. It's to remind everyone that sometimes we get lost in our goals and dreams. We worry about College when we are in Middle School. We worry about Scholarships instead of having our best High School Careers. If you put in the work, are coachable, and play the right way, good things will happen. If you try to manipulate situations, blame others around it, it will catch up to you.
Just Keep Working each day. If you do the RIGHT THINGS, good things will happen. It may not be exactly what you expected, but it will be the RIGHT SITUATION!
